Using a self service car wash can be a great way to save money and get your car clean. 
There are things you can do to help make certain you get the most value for the money you spend at the self service car wash.

• Start by vacuuming—most self-service car washes offer vacuums that operate for a set time per payment. Before paying, remove all trash from your vehicle, take out the floor mats to shake them clean, and pull the vacuum hose inside. Work quickly to make the most of your time.

  When you enter a washing bay, park your vehicle as close to the center as possible, both side-to-side and front-to-back, so you’ll have space to move around during cleaning.

  Prepare before beginning the wash. If you’re using your own towels for drying, have them ready; if buying towels at the car wash, purchase them beforehand. Set the car wash controls to pre-soak and aim the wand at your vehicle before inserting coins, since the machine starts once payment is made.

  For the wash itself, begin with a pre-wash, follow with tire cleaner, then soap the car, and finish by rinsing thoroughly. Move efficiently but don’t overlook trouble spots. Rinsing is crucial—be sure to remove all soap, and if possible, rinse more than once. Skip the waxing step until after your car is dry.

  Once finished washing, drive out of the bay to an area where you won’t block others. Dry your car completely with towels. If you want to wax, do it after drying—drive back into the bay for waxing, then return to an open spot to towel off again. If you’re skipping waxing, drying is your final step.
